Lorie Hamelin awarded an honorary doctorate by the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Southern Denmark

On Friday 30 November 2026, the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) awarded Lorie Hamelin an honorary doctorate.

This prestigious appointment honours a leading researcher who obtained her PhD in environmental engineering and held early-career academic posts at SDU Life Cycle Engineering within the Department of Green Technology.

Currently a research director at INRAE’s TBI laboratory, Lorie Hamelin is internationally recognised for her expertise in life-cycle assessment and the circular bioeconomy.

Her research focuses on quantifying the environmental consequences of large-scale regional transitions towards GHG neutrality, consequential LCA being pivotal in her work.

Over more than 15 years of international research experience across Canada, Denmark, Poland and France, she has developed a research programme at the interface of life cycle assessment, bioeconomy and the GHG neutrality goal, contributing to European and university research agendas and publishing in leading journals including Nature journals, Lancet Planetary Health and Energy and Environmental Science. She is a recipient of the French Presidential “Make Our Planet Great Again” award, a nominated member of the International Life Cycle Academy, and serves in scientific advisory roles at international and European levels.

Pairing scientific excellence with strong societal relevance, her impactful findings have informed major global frameworks, including work utilized e.g. by the IPCC.
