and research subject<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2e9438f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"2e9438f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>My work focuses not only on characterizing but also domesticating diverse types of bacterial microcompartments (BMCs). BMCs are self-assembling protein mega-complexes that encapsulate entire metabolic pathways <em>in cellula<\/em>, hence sequestering toxic (or volatile) metabolic intermediates and increasing pathway efficiency. Many questions remain unanswered as to how BMCs function. To answer these questions, I implement a multidisciplinary approach combining microbiology (growth phenotyping, fluorescence microscopy, electron microscopy, \u2026), synthetic biology (high-throughput cloning, genome editing, \u2026), biochemistry (BMC purification, enzyme assays, \u2026) as well as fluxomics (<sup>1<\/sup>H-NMR, stochiometric models, isotopic models, \u2026) aspects. The generated knowledge has both fundamental and applied impacts: by understanding how BMCs natively work, we will be able to turn them into intracellular nanoreactors for biotechnological purposes.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>I focus on three main research topics at the moment:<\/p><p>&#8211; Studying the native ethanolamine utilization BMC of <em>Escherichia coli<\/em> and its metabolic function in commensal isolates (ColiMATTERS project).<\/p><p>&#8211; Producing heterologous propanediol utilization BMCs in <em>E<\/em>. <em>coli<\/em> and exploiting their metabolic versatility (PDU project).<\/p><p>&#8211; Harnessing the power of recombinant Pdu BMCs in <em>E<\/em>. <em>coli<\/em> to turn them into C1 compounds assimilation powerhouses (METHYLO
