La transition d\u2019une \u00e9nergie fossile vers des \u00e9nergies renouvelables est une priorit\u00e9 ; les dynamiques politiques en R\u00e9gion Occitanie, en France et en Europe, expriment un engagement fort vers l\u2019autonomie \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique priorisant la production d\u2019\u00e9nergie \u00e0 partir de mati\u00e8res premi\u00e8res renouvelables et de d\u00e9chets, au sein de proc\u00e9d\u00e9s industriels \u00e9co-compatibles.<\/p><p>Issues de la biomasse, les bio\u00e9nergies sont la premi\u00e8re source d\u2019\u00e9nergie renouvelable en France et en Europe. Sourc\u00e9es localement, les bio\u00e9nergies sont un secteur d\u2019activit\u00e9 strat\u00e9gique qui contribue au dynamisme des territoires avec un potentiel de d\u00e9veloppement important dans le transport et le chauffage, en accord avec les annonces de l\u2019Agence Internationale de l&#8217;Energie. Avec un march\u00e9 actuel d&#8217;environ 8 milliards de m\u00e8tres cubes et plus de 1 000 usines de production biom\u00e9thane dans le monde, soit une fraction minuscule de l&#8217;offre totale de gaz naturel ; l&#8217;investissement s\u2019est accru ces derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es, en particulier en Europe mais \u00e9galement en Am\u00e9rique du Nord, Br\u00e9sil, Chine et Inde. Plusieurs grandes compagnies p\u00e9troli\u00e8res, notamment Total, BP, Shell et Chevron, ont r\u00e9cemment annonc\u00e9 des investissements dans la production de biom\u00e9thane. En France, l\u2019ADEME estime qu\u2019un syst\u00e8me gazier bas\u00e9 \u00e0 100 % sur du gaz renouvelable \u00e0 horizon 2050 est atteignable en utilisant des ressources qui n\u2019entrent pas concurrence avec les usages \u00ab mati\u00e8res premi\u00e8res \u00bb (agriculture, for\u00eat, industrie du bois et biomat\u00e9riaux) et alimentaires qui restent prioritaires (Un mix de gaz 100 % renouvelable, ADEME 2018). Les voies de production de biom\u00e9thane prioris\u00e9es sont tr\u00e8s majoritairement (70 %) la m\u00e9thanation catalytique de biomasses (voie thermochimique) et la m\u00e9thanisation (voie biologique) de d\u00e9chets.<\/p><p>Le secteur de l&#8217;aviation, tr\u00e8s touch\u00e9 par les effets de la pand\u00e9mie, met en \u0153uvre de multiples strat\u00e9gies pour r\u00e9duire ses impacts environnementaux avec un objectif de r\u00e9duction de 50% \u00e0 l\u2019horizon 2050. La production et l&#8217;utilisation \u00e0 grande \u00e9chelle de carburants a\u00e9ronautiques par conversion biologique ou thermochimique de la biomasse peuvent jouer un r\u00f4le essentiel (IRENA 2021, Reaching Zero with Renewables: Biojet fuels, International Renewable Energy Agency) : les besoins en biocarburants pour 2050 sont \u00e9valu\u00e9s entre 100 et 200 milliards de litres par an. Avec une production actuelle proche de 140 millions de litres par an (2019) soit moins de 1 % du carburant actuellement utilis\u00e9 par le secteur de l&#8217;aviation, les efforts de R&amp;D s\u2019intensifient et les bioproc\u00e9d\u00e9s et les proc\u00e9d\u00e9s thermochimiques de conversion de biomasses offrent de r\u00e9elles opportunit\u00e9s.<\/p><p>Enfin, l&#8217;hydrog\u00e8ne est un carburant dont les perspectives se confortent \u00e9galement. L&#8217;Union europ\u00e9enne a publi\u00e9 sa strat\u00e9gie ou feuille de route pour l&#8217;hydrog\u00e8ne en 2020. Ce projet vise l\u2019acquisition d\u2019\u00e9quipements qui ciblent sp\u00e9cifiquement les verrous limitant le d\u00e9veloppement de ces nouvelles fili\u00e8res depuis le pr\u00e9traitement des biomasses jusqu\u2019\u00e0 l\u2019obtention des produits. Les fronts de science concernent<\/span><\/p><ul><li>Les catalyseurs biologiques ou chimiques qui sont au c\u0153ur des pr\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9s de transformation de bioressources et d\u00e9chets. L\u2019exploration de leur tr\u00e8s grande diversit\u00e9, naturelle ou issue d\u2019un travail d\u2019ing\u00e9nierie, reste un challenge avec des opportunit\u00e9s importantes de recherche et d\u2019innovation.<\/li><li>Les r\u00e9acteurs de conversion, s\u00e9paration et purification des mol\u00e9cules produites ; ces derniers n\u00e9cessitent des avanc\u00e9es \u00e0 la fois dans la connaissance des processus fondamentaux qui r\u00e9gissent les performances mais \u00e9galement dans la conception technique incluant la m\u00e9trologie et les mesures et l\u2019\u00e9co conception. Les proc\u00e9d\u00e9s de separation et purifications influencent fortement les performances \u00e9conomiques et environnementales des fili\u00e8res, avec une contribution sur le co\u00fbt total de production qui peut atteindre 50%.<\/li><\/ul><p>En compl\u00e9ment, certains de \u00e9quipements li\u00e9s \u00e0 des activit\u00e9s de biotechnologie permettent d\u2019envisager, avec des perspectives tr\u00e8s prometteuses, des applications \u00e0 la sant\u00e9 et la nutrition humaine. Chacun de ces acteurs est reconnu au meilleur niveau pour ses activit\u00e9s en recherche fondamentale, recherche appliqu\u00e9e ou transfert industriel. Ils collaborent tous avec succ\u00e8s depuis de nombreuses ann\u00e9es. Leur potentiel d\u2019innovation est exceptionnel au b\u00e9n\u00e9fice de la recherche mais \u00e9galement des acteurs industriels pr\u00e9sents en R\u00e9gion.
